Best time to visit Singapore — year-round city with haze caveats

Singapore has no real seasons but haze from Indonesia can affect September-October. Our guide covers the driest months and when to avoid smoke.

Overview

Singapore sits almost on the equator and has one of the most stable climates of any major city. Temperature, humidity and day length barely change from month to month. There is no "bad" time to visit — but there are slightly better months (February-March) and one genuine concern: the haze from Indonesian forest fires that can affect September and October in bad years.

Driest months

February, March and July tend to see the least rainfall. Rain can fall any day of the year, but these months have more sunny spells and shorter storms. The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix in September and the Great Singapore Sale (June-August) are popular events worth timing around.

Haze risk

During El Niño years (2015, 2019), smoke from Indonesian peat fires can push Singapore's air quality to hazardous levels for days or weeks, typically in September-October. During the 2015 crisis, the 24-hour PSI reached 322 and outdoor activities were impossible. Check ENSO forecasts before booking September trips. In non-El Niño years, haze risk is minimal.

Budget tips

Singapore has no real off-season for hotels since it's primarily a business destination. The cheapest periods tend to be January (post-New Year) and May-June (before school holidays). Chinese New Year (January-February) and Christmas week are the most expensive. Hawker centres offer outstanding food year-round regardless of weather.
