The heat index was developed by the US NWS and uses a regression equation that combines temperature and relative humidity. At 35°C with 70% humidity, the heat index reaches 46°C — a dangerous level. Heat index values above 40°C indicate high risk of heat exhaustion. In South and Southeast Asia, heat index values during the hot season regularly exceed 50°C in some locations.
