The knot is the standard unit for wind speed in aviation and maritime contexts worldwide. To convert: 1 knot = 1.852 km/h = 0.514 m/s. Weather advisories for ships and aircraft always use knots. Beaufort Force 12 (hurricane force) corresponds to 64+ knots. Airline pilots report turbulence in knots of headwind change. Marine forecasts from PAGASA, MET Malaysia and TMD use knots for wind speeds.
