basicWhat is Gale?
Gale-force winds are common during strong monsoon surges, tropical storms and the outflow from intense thunderstorm complexes. Maritime gale warnings are issued by PAGASA, MET Malaysia and other regional agencies when winds are expected to reach Force 8. Small boat advisories are issued at lower thresholds. Gales can topple trees, damage roofs and make coastal ferry operations hazardous.
