Much of western Rajasthan is the Thar Desert, and the state gets less rain than almost any other part of India. What rain there is falls mostly from July to September, heaviest in July and August, and the east of the state is wetter than the desert west. The heat peaks in May and June, often with dust storms, while winter days are mild and desert nights cold.

When to visit Rajasthan

The most comfortable months to visit are November to February, when days are clear and mild. December and January are the coolest months, and desert nights can be cold. Travelling in May and June means facing the fiercest heat of the year.

Air quality is usually at its worst between November and January and at its best during the monsoon, when rain washes the air.
