What is Permafrost?

Permafrost is found in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions and on high mountain plateaus like the Tibetan Plateau. It does not exist anywhere in Southeast Asia because the region is entirely tropical. However, permafrost thaw in the Arctic due to climate change is contributing to global sea level rise that threatens low-lying Southeast Asian coasts.
