What is Air Quality Index (AQI)?

Multiple AQI standards exist globally. The US EPA AQI (0–500) and European AQI (0–100+) are the most widely used. Mausam Online uses the European AQI from Open-Meteo, which rates air quality as Good (0–20), Fair (20–40), Moderate (40–60), Poor (60–80), Very Poor (80–100) or Extremely Poor (100+). The most critical pollutant for health is PM2.5 — fine particles that penetrate deep into the lungs.
